... with just over 3 out of 4 people accepting! Still 126 people (including kids) not responded yet!

I just hope the website problems did not stop too many people from replying online!

angel's Gravatar Maybe a lesson I should learn from this, which I'll be able to learn more about once we know whose invites got lost vs. who just didn't bother to reply but are/are not coming, is who I shouldn't "bother" with friendship...

That we've just grown apart and they aren't interested in keeping in touch, that I feel closer to them than the reverse, and I shouldn't bother them with my news.

That they are too busy or too disorganized to manage to call, send and email, or return the card...in which case, I think I should take it as a sign that they don't have enough energy, good manners, OR desire to make it "worth" being friends with them.

Of course, those cases are probably going to be rare. But still, the few of them will be a reality check!

What I meant was that, after Mike and I follow up with people, we'll know better how to 'take' their not having responded. I expect that most of the time, it's nothing personal, just little details of life getting away from them...no harm meant. If that's the case, it will be pretty obvious.

It will also be obvious if on follow-up, we find people are still hard to reach or distant, that these former friends are trying to give us indirect hints to jump in a lake. We are not going to "stalk" or "pester" them just because we used to feel close to them or shared some good times.

It'll allow us to thin out the address book in good conscience!

To clarify. This does not mean I will hate or won't care about the people who get removed from the address book. It just means, as I thought I made clear, that I won't be bugging -them- ...that is, I won't actively contact them. Sigh.

No hurt feelings, no judgement of people's character...just the idea that since we CAN pick our friends, that it makes sense to actively maintain friendships with only those who DO have the time to communicate and DO have good manners, and so on.

If I'm wrong, please do share your opinions!
