Make-up Misery

Soo we went up to the Aveda Institute on Saturday morning. For those that don't know it, it is a salon training place. They train young women (and men) to work in the Aveda salons, and do haircuts and makup, as well as an assortment of facials, manicures, body polishes, etc. Anyway, it tends to be cheap as it is all done by students (supervised by instructors), but since it is done by students you are never quite sure what you are getting.

Anyway, I got a haircut and body polish, both of which were kinda crap, and Angel got the same body polish as well as an up-do for her hair and a make-up job, both as possibilities for the wedding. The up do was all a buch of curls in the back, looking a little like a combination between swiss cheese and a birds nest. Not that it was not nice, cause it was, but it just was not Angel to me, or to anyone else who saw it.

Now the makeup job was something else. It really was horrible, and in the words of Angel it made her look like a cheap whore. Pictures of what Angel looks like normally and what she looked like with the amateur make-up on.

You can't really see it in the photo, but on one eye the girl kept adding foundation to cover up smudges caused by the mascara (seems Angel's eyelashes point down, causing problems in this situation). When I saw it, it really looked like she had a black eye!

Other things to note:

The this-close-to-the-trailer teenybopper who did the makeup kept complimenting my individual features, which confused me, because I don't think anything she did my features any favors. In the dark of the car, it's even harder to see how purple and black the eyeshadow was, and how pink the lip gloss was...both things that would look awful in a photograph, I think.

She was really sweet, and she offered me a tip: "If you want to make your eyes look farther apart..." etc.

Which puzzled me again, because I think they're far apart enough as it is. Mary, Mike's mom, wondered if the girl thought my eyeballs ought to be on my ears. So.

The other thing was that I was so mortified about how amateurish the application was, but the girl was so in earnest about "I love makeup" and "That's hot" and 'So do you like it??" that I couldn't bring myself to tell her she didn't know her way around an Asian face to save her life.

Once the girl left to compile the paperwork, I asked Mister Mike to keep a lookout for her return. I doused a few tissues with makeup remover and asked him to stash them away for me. I felt ashamed to be walking around with people looking at me with my face all spraypainted, but I waited until we had taken the pictures in the car before abrading the layers off.

Ugh.

What a downer!!

I think you should send Mr Mike back to the same girl, then post photos of that result :-)

There's certainly an unhealthy glow to the 'after' picture, perhaps the training school is run as way to encourage people to pay top-dollar for the real thing.

For some reason, you're now reminding me of Sandra Oh from Grey's Anatomy, which is odd because I haven't ever seen Grey's Anatomy.

You must have been talking to some of my coworkers who watch Gray's and have mentioned the same thing to me. If I make my hair frizzy, I think I could pull it off. The resemblance ends there, because she's a skinny Hollywood bitch, and I'm just your standard run-of-the-office bitch.

Well, not with scissors, but I did walk a little in a box...It was about 5 feet tall, so I was hunched over a little, and about 2 feet square. We were testing it out as a new teaching tool. Lesson in a box. Comes with human. Warning: human must be fed or it will become ornery.
