By the Power of Wazzkull!

Though not half as exciting as the kittycat, the vows, (as Mister Mike would say) they do be written.

It was rough going at first, and I had to stop and feed us some ribs I cooked up today. (We started sniping at each other and being unproductive, and Mike was wreaking more havoc than usual fiddling with the nerf bat.)

After that, all was good.

Now, he is all happy, sitting playing fake golf on our big TV with surround sound (new/yay!).

Wedding Favo[u]rs have arrived...

Just picked them up this afternoon. We like them, and hope y'all will too! Not telling what they are, just that they came in the boxes pictured above!

Seating...

Yes, there will be seats at the dinner/reception, and even tables, which certainly will make it easier to eat!

We completed the first draft of the seating plan on Saturday evening. It took a couple of hours, but we think we did a good job of mixing y'all up into interesting, and hopefully fun groups. No you will not be surrounded by people you necessairly know, but hopefully by people you will enjoy the company of. And worst come to the worst, just remember that it is really only for dinner that the seating chart is important.

Chart has also been reviewed and received the thumbs up from both sets of parents, so hopefully we are pretty much good to go!

73% response rate and still rising

Looks like we'll have heard from everyone by this weekend, which means we'll then have a big task ahead: the seating plan. Ideally, everyone will find their tablemates to be nice and interesting.

Of course, if Mike and I do a crappy job, you're going to have to get up and dance and celebrate, just to get away from all those horrid people. What a bother! ;p

We've had several reports of missing invites from all over the country, which is no bueno, but I hope it won't keep most of those guests from being able to attend.

Now to lock down the kids' party, the programs, the favor/name tags, the AV setup, the dances, and the writing of vows... Vows? Yoipes!

Second Thoughts...

NOOO. Not about the wedding... just about the theme. Angel is working on the processional music for the wedding, and the ring tone I have came up in conversation. I use a snippet from Duel of the Fates from Episode I (Star Wars). That led to the Imperial March, and then it extended to thinking of revamping the theme for the wedding to match a Star Wars theme... will full costumes and regalia. Thoughts on the cast would be...

  • Angel - Princess Leia... with the ear muff style hair do (or maybe the braid and the bikini outfit, with the chain around her neck! :p)
  • Mike - As I am marrying Angel/Leia that would mean I HAVE to be Han Solo
  • Sanj - Chewbacca
  • Adam - C3P0
  • Anne and Janette - Imperial Guards - Tall, Regal, dressed in all red, with Nerf Light Sabers
  • Flower girls - Either Ewoks or one Ewok and Julia as R2D2
  • MoG - Ewok... all the way! My mum would make a fantastic Ewok
  • FoG - Obi Wan - I can just picture my dad like that
  • BoG - Bobba Fet (He has jet packs - bet my brother would love to have jetpacks, and his own spaceship)
  • MoB - Padme (mother of Leia... right?) - Plenty of fancy and outrageous costumes to choose from
  • FoB - Anakin/Vader - Joe could make a really cool Vader
  • BoB - Well, as brother to Leia, son of Padme and Anakin, that would make him Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuke
  • Stormtroopers - The Ushers... who I will be emailing soon!
  • Yoda - Rev. Pat O'Boyle - the wise one!
  • Senator Palpatine/Evil Emperor Dude - Kong Kong - Angel's step-grandfather. Sits around ordering people to do stuff and occassionally gets up to zap them with electric bolts
I am sure there are more parts that I have missed, so please post comments and alternative lineups.

Kaaaaaayk

MoB, Groonst, and I visited Cakes By Gina waaaay out in Southwest Houston Friday afternoon. There will be a main cake (chocolate with mocha filling) and then Mike's personal cake (tres leches with rum and buttercream filling).

We have secured the approval of MoG, FoG, sFoB, and MoH.

The rest of you will have to wait. Thbbbbt.

Side note: Mike's cake will NOT be sculpted to look like Cammiekitty. Apparently, if it did, he would stand guard and not let anyone touch it. Especially if it had feathers for its tail.

29% respose rate so far

Thanks everyone!

Hope more come in, which means fewer follow-up calls and emails for Mister Mike and me!

Sound, background, and other pre-finalizing info

I met with Brenda at Rockefeller today, and Lisa, one of the location's owners was also there to help answer questions, as were representatives from ________, the sound and lighting company.

Rockefeller has an arch we can use. It is gothic and iron, and it matches their candles. All the candles in the hall are included with the rental fee. They will allow us to use any greenery left from the previous night's occupant. We will need two spotlights, but Brenda's AV people will take care of that.

The AV people will also set up separate speakers, top and bottom, so that we can control volume levels by zones, and the control hub will be the "service bar" downstairs. They said a wireless handheld mic works better than lapel mics, so that's what we'll have.

Also, Brenda said if I get the name cards together, Melange staff can take care of placing them on the favors, so that's one less thing that the client-side has to coordinate. They are happy to know they have extra prep space in a tent just outside the back door off the kitchen, and the hall has had a back stairway added on so that service staff are not forced to use the same stairway as guests all the time.

120 guests will fit downstairs, and at least 48 get balcony seats. The 'VIP room' does not have actual doors, but Melange will take care of having some heavy curtains put up so the children can watch Pixar movies in relative peace.

We will be scheduling a meetings two weeks ahead of the wedding to finalize seating arrangements.

Cakes and autumn fairy accessories

MoB organized a cake tasting at a local Filipino bakery that has for many, many years been making scrumptious pastries. Unfortunately, their offerings this morning were not up to their usual standard, so the crew will be asked to consume sweet calories a few more times to make sure we can have a delecticiousable dessert.

Afterward, the group, apart from Groomble and MoH, went to a Michael's, which is a chain of arts and crafts stores, because I had been in there a few days ago and happened to see about a million things that would be great for garland-tiaras and wands for the flower girls.

Mike will be posting photos from the trip to the mall, at which I think we found a workable makeup solution...including fabulous fake lashes. I'd never worn them before, and they were great. Because of them, I won't even need mascara.

Riffraff... just kidding.

Apparently, people all over the place are receiving invitations to some wedding or other.

(I can't believe those are already out!)

Some of the ones we sent Monday around noon were received by early afternoon Tuesday.

One of our neighbors' was even misdelivered to my mailbox...strange, though, because their children's invitation wasn't with it. So I dropped the invite off this morning at the proper door. Wonder if they thought their kids had been invited but they hadn't?!

Oh, man. This wedding is so real now.

And Mary's just ordered the unity candle...a claddagh design!

We have sparkles? (and other general updates)

As mentioned in Angel's post below, the invites arrived, look great, have been addresses and stamped, and are on their way out the door. In addition to that, we tried the house Cava of Rockefeller Hall as well as an alternative suggested by Angel's department director. Turns out the alternate is not only the nicer one, but is also slightly cheaper... now we wait to see if Rockefeller can get it from their suppliers.

Last but not least Angel has also finished making what will be our guest book. Photo is included below in case you are not sure what to look for on the day!
