Mike and Angel met once he moved to Houston and started taking classes with the capoeira group she had joined. They saw a few movies and ate a few meals together as "just friends". As they spent more time together, they got closer and even met other's parents. Nothing seemed extraordinary until Mike's mother rescued Camila, Angel adopted the kitten, and Mike tagged along. The couple bought a home together in October 2006, and Mike proposed in January 2007. Angel's step-grandparents chose the wedding day because of its auspiciousness, based on Chinese astrology. The couple will probably take their honeymoon in March 2008. Angelique was born in Houston, Texas at the Texas Women's Hospital. From an early age she was called upon to correct others' work - in pre-school she was asked to teach the other kids to count and recite the alphabet. At three years of age, the family moved to Beaumont. Though Southeast Texas would remain her home for the next 13 years, she managed not to develop much of an accent, possibly due either to her rapt attention to Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood or frequent international travel. She also took piano lessons since she was five, winning numerous competitions and getting accepted to master classes renowned pianists. Angelique graduated in the top ten of her class at Kelly High School in 1995. She then attended Rice University, where she majored in English and working at the Rice Thresher, eventually becoming Editor-in-Chief. After graduating from Rice University, Angelique interned at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, before taking up a rotating internship for Knight-Ridder, writing stories with exotic datelines like Fort Worth, Texas, Walnut Creek, California, and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Returning to Houston, she worked at a wide variety of jobs, on her feet as a waitress and valet parker, to behind a desk doing public relations work and selling insurance and investments. In 2006, she took up the editing pen once again as an associate editor in the scientific publications department of The University of Texas M D Anderson Cancer Center. Her overachieving (masochistic?) streak compels her to continue taking on new projects, like serving on the board of the Houston History Association and the Child Care Council, riding her motorcycle, and playing Capoeira. Mike was born in Belfast to Thomas and Mary Geehan. At the age of two his parents moved to Aberdeen, partly due to a good job opening for his dad, but also to get away from the violence that plagued Belfast at that time. After 5 years in Aberdeen, where Mike and his brother both grew to have strong Scottish accents (and where Mike managed to get all his friends sent to hospital due to eating poison berries, but managed not to eat any himself!) the family moved to Paris (France!). The next nine years were spent in various houses in and around the Paris area, and the boys both went to school at the British School of Paris. After Kieran had finished his A Levels (equivalent of graduating high school... only tougher) and Mike had finished his GCSE's (sophmore year of highschool), the family moved to Houston. Mike finished highschool at Awty International, graduating both with a US high school diploma and a International Baccalaureate diploma and then moved back to the old world. Four years at King's College London, where he forged many friendships that endure today, Mike completed a Masters degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Realising that he was a poor engineer, he then dove into the wild and wacky world of new media aka the Internet bubble. After jobs at several small web companies, Mike moved to the corporate world, working for three and a half years at Standard Chartered Bank, before quitting his job, and moving back to Houston. He then proceeded to take 6 months off work to polish his golf game (which has now gotten fairly rusty) and then joined Hewlett Packard, where he works to this day as a Project Manager in their consulting division. |
